Neda 2 Blood On His Hands

I did this one of Neda Agha Soltan at the suggestion of a friend in the colors of the Iranian Flag. . Click on the 2nd picture for the raw version 1.14 MBs and save to your Hard Drive. If sharing, please upload to your servers, credit and a link is nice, but not necessary. This artwork was recently featured on CNN

Unfortunately, CNN miscredited Facebook as the source/creator of the art, and my attempts at contacting them for a correction have been met with a very polite "Uhm:"

CNNrep via Twitter
We fair-used the art which was made into avatars everywhere. Suggest you burn credit in future. Please DM me if you want

Me: Not upset about the usage, was just hoping for a correction to web page of video, not even a link.

I understand where you're coming from. How did people get your graphic and turn it into an avatar? Did it have ur name then?

Report has already been released. Too late to go back and change the source as we got it and others from Facebook.

Me: Ah. Ok. I appreciate you taking the time to let me know!

Would've loved to give your entire link and full credit had I known it was your work. Unfortunately no one had proper credit.

Of course.. Great work.. Keep it up. Take my word, and burn that credit.

I am kicking myself, but happily so. CNN people seem incredibly nice, if insanely busy. And I should have known better, really. So, from henceforth, am burning credit into all images free released.../selfkick

Here is a screenshot of the Neda Image in Photoshop

Neda Agha-Soltan (Persian: - Neda Agha-Soltan; born 1982, died June 20, 2009) was an Iranian woman whose killing, during the 2009 Iranian election protests, was captured on video by bystanders. The graphic videos were posted on the Internet, and her name quickly became a rallying cry for the opposition.Neda means "voice" or "calling" in Persian, and she has been referred to as the "voice of Iran" and "a symbol of pro-democracy protesters battering the Islamic regime" in the world. Her last name has also been spelled as Soltani in some media reports. From Wikipedia

I was heart-broken. Watching the original videos it hit me like the images of the towers falling. It was Tiananmen, the same feeling and utter helplessness pushed me
past the point where I could let it go. I was compelled to do this because not doing it hurt. I was scared to do it, I worry that it might offend her family, or her memory. But her death means something to me, all deaths do, but hers was a visceral fist to the chest.

Maybe I painted this as a memorial, or a rememberance of what she died for, or maybe all I did was mark a painful moment of helplessnes.

My hope is that, if we all remember what she stood for, there won't be another moment like this.

My partner suggested I painted this one. Artistically, I battled back and forth with the realism, and symbolism. I wasn't comfortable putting my name directly in the work, but after the CNN fair use thing, I think it's best.

At the moment, I'm debating whether or not I want to make a larger version available. Sorry.
